I was called

At 20 years old I was attending the local community college with an interest in international business marketing. Why? Because I knew I’d be good at it and it would provide a substantial income. I grew up in a low-income household of penny-pinching and paying bills late. I had no interest in living the rest of my life this way. Even though my parents must have been incredibly stressed, I never saw that. I was raised by two very loving parents who showed me that money was not at all relevant to happiness. I was always encouraged and reminded that I could succeed at anything I put my mind to. So, international marketing was it… until it wasn’t.

One day I was driving behind a vehicle that was advertising a massage school. It came to me at that moment that I could go through massage school and use that skill to put myself through the remaining education for my degree. I called up the school and found that I could take classes on weekends which was perfect because I had a full-time job and was taking my college courses at night. My mom thought I was crazy and said, “You don’t even like a foot in your lap!”. She was right, but I went for it anyway.

I fell in love! Something clicked and I knew I was where I belonged. From that first day, a purpose rose up in me and I knew that I needed to follow what was being taught to me. I could feel an energy under my hands when I touched people. Whatever that force is that happens before you even make contact, lit me up. I was hooked! Needless to say, I quit community college and put my full effort into Body Therapy.

A few years later I found myself wanting to help people on a more dynamic level than what I was doing with massage. My gift for feeling people's blocked energy and dysfunction was clear to me as well as my patients and I was encouraged to follow whatever the next path was that lay before me. Someone flippantly mentioned Chinese Medicine, and just like that day following the massage advertisement, I knew this was it.

Let me go back a few years. As a teenager, I suffered urinary tract infections. I would get several a year and at one point found myself in the hospital with a kidney infection. I was tired of Western medicine and its antibiotics. They seemed to take the infection away but certainly did not prevent them from occurring again and again. Right around the time of the kidney infection, my dad saw an article in our local newspaper about acupuncture and its effects on UTIs. He told me he thought I should go see this woman, and so I did. I saw her for 6 months and my UTI issues went away. She treated me with herbs and acupuncture, rebalancing my system so that the infections no longer occurred.

So, as I reflected on my own personal experience it seemed that absolutely my next educational journey would be learning this incredibly and very effective style of medicine. In December 2010 I received my Masters in the Science of Chinese Medicine and by April of 2011, I had passed my board exams and was a fully licensed Acupuncturist and herbalist.

My two decades of experience in working with the body and human behavior have led me to Life Coaching. I also bring with me life experience. I am a daughter who witnessed my parents’ struggles and the death of my mother from alcoholism. I am a wife of an amazing husband who has struggled and fought with me to survive this marriage and all the trauma we have created for ourselves, prevailing through it all to become one of the strongest couples I know. We did this through the same work I teach. I am also a Mom of three incredible humans, 2 daughters, and a son. These children have been my greatest teachers by far. They present me with an opportunity to be my best self and remind me daily what it means to live life with integrity, honor and accountability. And again, how I’ve become and remain the conscious mother I am, is very much due to the work I teach. It has always been important to me to walk my talk. I offer my patients tools and strategies that I use or have used along my path so that I can work authentically beside them from a more understanding perspective.

I consider myself an incredibly fortunate woman. I find value in who I am and honor the work it has taken me to be where I am at today. I want this life for all people and one of my greatest joys is watching people succeed through the challenges they are presented with. I find it an honor to be welcomed onto someone's path as a guide and teacher of life’s work and witness as they find their Self-worth and happiness!
